I made this chart after reading an article that informed me that sitting more than six hours a day was effectively killing me. I immediately flipped out and started eating lunch standing up (which I still do pretty frequently). However, that only brings my daily sit time down to about 23 hours.
Anyway, learning this fact made me wonder what other things were lowering my lifespan.

…and yes, you read that right…NOT drinking alcohol (in moderation) supposedly reduces lifespan.

13.Visit New York - DONE 1/12/12-1/28/12
I finally took a trip to New York this year in preparation for an eventual move some time this spring. I love the energy and vibe of the city and plan on going back later…..after I quit my job.  I’m still working on a solid exit strategy, and perhaps grad school in the near future.  At least I got a short visit to New York out of this :)

5. Save $12,000+ for grad school. - Done 12/31/2011

Surprisingly, I met this goal right after the holiday shuffle! Plus a little unexpected extra! December came and went in a blur this year.  I didn’t do any holiday shopping nor did I decorate the house as I do every year, although both activities usually require me to spend a great deal of money.

Shopping has never been a huge event for me (not a fan of trying on things in the dressing room!), but I admit that I’ve spent a fair share of bored Saturday afternoons adding stuff to my Amazon shopping cart.  Usually, it’s stuff that I want, not stuff that I need. How else would you explain a black Dean acoustic-electric guitar that I no longer play? Or a 10-piece Hampton Tomodcchi Santouka knife set in my cupboard while another knife set sits on my kitchen counter?   I’m slowly learning that I can get by with a lot less these days, due in part to me just being too damn busy to care about the extras.  Being busy has taught me to to evaluate things that are a ‘MUST’ vs. things that are a ‘PLUS.’  Hopefully, I’ll adopt this frugality into habit and learn to be better with my money.

I’m not sure if the $12k+ that I saved this year will go toward grad school, but whatever it goes to, it’ll be a good investment. 2012 is starting to look like a great fiscal year!

Koreatown Galleria

On Christmas day, the only businesses that are open (next to the movies) are Asian stores.  So I took my K-pop obsessed 12-year-old cousin and some intrigued family members to visit the Korean Galleria mall on Western and Olympic.  Check out the cool finds!

Cutesy little Korean gifts, always colorful and wrapped in cellophane.

Steve Job’s biography in Korean!

Downstairs in the supermarket: a whole section dedicated to kimchi!!

2012

Friends, its two weeks until the New Year, which means its one month until I break every new year’s resolution that I will make this year.  Nevertheless, it doesn’t hurt to make plans, even if it includes plans on breaking my plans.

1. Lose 20 pounds.  I know this is superficial and way cliche, but this is what I call a gateway resolution.  Meaning it lends way to other more valuable and indirect resolutions such as taking more walks, working fewer hours at the office, eating healthier and making use of that gym membership that I paid for and have gone a grand total of twice this year.

2. Set out my clothes and pack my purse the night before.  Mornings are no time to be frantic or to try on multiple outfits.  I usually end up throwing on something wrinkled and forgetting to properly accessorize.  So in 2012, my outfits will be pre-meditated and PERFECT!

3. Wear sunglasses. Cause its cool.

4. Write letters and send postcards. The United States Postal Service suffered a net loss of $5.1 billion and deferred an additional $5.5 billion in employee health care benefits this year. Yet somehow, the postman still delivers our mail everyday, rain or shine.  (The lady that delivers mail in my parents’ neighborhood goes to our church!) I think its worth the $0.44 out of my week to support this great institution. Hope you find this cause worthy also! Plus, its always nice to come home some snail mail every now and then :)

5. Wear a watch…only because it gives me an excuse to buy one.  Tre sophistiquee.

This will be a summer for my Peugeot.
Exploring the city on two wheels is much more confrontational than sitting inside four thousand pounds of moving metal. Plus I’m trying to be more active and save a buck or two on gas.
